The Three Great Economic Eras

The Three Great Economic Eras

History advances in waves. Every few decades, a technological revolution reshapes the global economy, creates new industries, disrupts old ones, and changes which human skills generate the greatest value.

Over the past century, three major economic cycles have defined global progress:

  1. 1The Industrial Era
  2. 2The Information Era
  3. 3The Intelligence Era

Each built upon the last, creating new opportunities for those who adapted early.

The three economic eras, and the one still to come.

The Pattern

Every era follows the same cycle:

Innovation → Disruption → New Skills → New Industries → New Wealth

The Industrial Era rewarded those who built. The Information Era rewarded those who connected. The Intelligence Era is starting to reward those who can think, create and collaborate with AI.

Each era has also been shorter than the previous ones. As humans evolve and the distinction between humans and machines starts to blur, the cycle times quicken. The next era will come a lot faster than the previous ones, and it might already be at our doorstep.

The Next Era

History suggests the Intelligence Era will not be the last. Just as industrialization gave rise to information, and information gave rise to intelligence, today’s revolution is laying the foundation for another transformation. When it arrives, it will once again redefine the skills, industries and opportunities that shape our world.

Three cycles of human progress rising toward the next era

The future has always belonged to those who prepare before everyone else knows what’s coming.
